Billy Evans is the name many people type in after they read about Elizabeth Holmes, the woman behind Theranos. This guide tells you who he is, what he does, and why his name is in the news this week. You will also see what is known about his age, school, family and money, and what he has chosen to keep private.
Who Is Billy Evans and Why Does He Matter?
William “Billy” Evans is an American businessman from California. He comes from the Evans family, who started a hotel company in San Diego called Evans Hotels. His grandparents, William and Anne Evans, began that company in 1953. He is also the long time partner of Elizabeth Holmes, who started the blood testing company Theranos.
Most people know his name only because of her story. Holmes was found guilty of cheating investors, and Evans stayed by her side through the trial and the prison sentence. He sat with her in court, spoke up for her in letters to the judge, and now helps raise their two children. That loyal role is why so many people search for him.

Billy Evans Current Status as of October 16, 2026
Billy Evans is trending this week for two big reasons. First, he gave his first public interview on the All In podcast, which was shared around October 15, 2026. He spoke about the Theranos trial, his view of the case, and how life has changed for his family since Holmes went to prison.
Second, a new film called You Can See Everything reaches theaters on October 16, 2026. It was made by Nathan Fielder and follows the 34 days before Holmes went to prison. Fielder has said Evans was hard to engage with during the project, and that neither Holmes nor Evans watched the film.
- October 2017: Evans and Holmes met at a Fleet Week event in San Francisco
- May 30, 2023: Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas
- Around October 15, 2026: Evans shares his first public interview
- October 16, 2026: The film You Can See Everything opens in theaters
In the interview, Evans said Holmes could move to a halfway house in 2027. A halfway house is where a person near the end of a prison term lives before going fully free. This is his own guess, not a court order. He also spoke about the $435 million Holmes owes in payback money and about the new company he is building.
What to Know About Billy Evans
Early Life and Family Background
Billy Evans grew up in San Diego, California. His family has lived in the area for many years. The family is known for Evans Hotels, a company that runs fancy hotels, restaurants and spas around Mission Bay and La Jolla. His grandparents started it in 1953, and other family members later joined the team that runs it.
Career
Before the Theranos story made him famous, Evans worked in tech. News outlets have reported that he worked at LinkedIn and at Luminar Technologies, a company that builds sensors for self driving cars. These jobs show he had his own working life before he met Holmes.
Today he is said to be building a medical testing company. He has described it as a business that uses a light based method called Raman spectroscopy to study samples. In simple words, it reads tiny signals from light to learn what is inside something. Reports spell the company name in different ways, so check the latest news if you need the exact spelling.
Age
His exact birthday has not been confirmed by a trusted source. Some websites list different dates, which is a sign they are guessing. In the new interview, Evans said he was about 26 or 27 when he met Holmes in October 2017. Going by that, he is about 35 or 36 years old today.
Religion
Billy Evans has not shared his religion in public. No trusted news source names a faith for him, so it is best not to guess.
Wife or Husband
Evans is partnered with Elizabeth Holmes. They met at a Fleet Week event in San Francisco in October 2017, and he has said they were friends for a few months before they became a couple. He asked her to marry him after they went to a Taylor Swift concert, and he gave her a snake ring he bought there.
Some older stories said they married in 2019. However, Holmes said in February 2025 that they had not officially married. So the safest word is partner or fiance. They have two children: a son named William, born in 2021, and a daughter named Invicta, born in February 2023.
Net Worth
There is no trusted number for Billy Evans’ net worth. Some websites list figures, but they do not show where the numbers come from. What is clear is that he comes from a family with a long running hotel business, and that gives him a wealthy background. How much of that money belongs to him personally is not public.
Parents
His father comes from the Evans Hotels family, and reports over the years have said his father has stood by Holmes in public. His mother’s name has not been shared in the sources I checked, so it is left out here.
Height
His height has not been shared in any trusted source. Numbers on fan sites do not come from Evans or a news report.
Education
News outlets say Billy Evans went to MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. One report says he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics there. Reports also say he once gave Holmes his MIT ring when he asked her to marry him, which supports the school link. His high school has been listed differently on different sites, so it is not named here.
State of Origin
Billy Evans is from California. He was raised in San Diego, where his family has long run Evans Hotels. He has also lived in the San Francisco area.
