Yelich is trending because the Brewers just won the National League pennant. On Thursday night, October 15, Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6 to 4 in Game 4 of the NLCS. That finished a four game sweep. The Brewers came from four runs behind to win, and they now play in their first World Series since 1982.
Important Dates
October 15, 2026: Brewers sweep the Dodgers and win the National League pennant.
December 5, 2026: Yelich turns 35 years old.
The win has a deep meaning for Yelich. The Dodgers swept the Brewers in the 2025 NLCS, so this was payback. He is also the only player left on the Brewers roster from the 2018 team that lost to Los Angeles in Game 7 of that year’s NLCS.
This season he was also named team captain by manager Pat Murphy.
His regular season was quieter than his best years. He hit in the low .230s and finished with around a dozen home runs, and he sat out some games. But October has been kinder. He hit .357 against the San Diego Padres in the division series, and in Game 2 he drew a walk in the ninth inning just before Jackson Chourio ended the game with a walk off win. The Brewers won 103 games in the regular season.
